American tenor Richard Novak is a young artist who is quickly gaining recognition for his very beautiful and sizable voice and the great unaffected expressiveness and ease of his singing. In his short career, Mr. Novak has performed on opera, concert and recital stages in numerous performances with distinguished companies including Washington Concert Opera, the Dallas Chamber Orchestra, Opera Carolina, Chautauqua Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Wichita Grand Opera, San Antonio Symphony, Chautauqua Symphony, and the Monroe Symphony.

In opera, Mr. Novak has performed varied roles including Martin (The Tender Land), Ernesto (Don Pasquale), Nemorino (Elixir of Love), El Remendado (Carmen), Don Luigi (Maria Stuarda), Roméo and Tybalt (Roméo et Juliette), Beppe (I Pagliacci), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Rodolfo (La Bohème), Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), Alfredo (La Traviata), and Lippo (Street Scenes). He added the principal roles of Don José (Carmen), Werther (Werther), and Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) in cover assignments with Utah Festival Opera and Chautauqua Opera. On the concert stage, Mr. Novak has performed the Tenor Solo in significant oratorios and masses including Handel's Messiah, Liszt's Christus, Mendelossohn's Elijah and Symphony No. 2 "Lobgesang," Mozart's Requiem and Coronation Mass, and Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle and he looks forward to various concerts with the Wagner Society of Washington, DC. Upcoming performances include Aristeus/Pluto in Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld with the In-Series (Washington, D.C.), Turridu (Cavalleria Rusticana) with Annapolis Opera, concerts with the Wagner Society of Washington, D.C., a reprise of Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) with the Prince William Symphony, Tenor Soloist (Christus-Liszt) with the New Dominion Chorale, a recital for George Mason University and a lecture-recital for the University of North Texas.

Mr. Novak has had the privilege of training with prominent apprentice programs in the US including the Santa Fe Opera, Chautauqua Opera, the Des Moines Metro Opera, the Wichita Grand Opera Resident Artist Program, and the Wesley Balk Singing/Acting Institute. He is currently a member of the Evelyn Lear and Thomas Stewart Emerging Singers Program.

Awards for Mr. Novak include Singer of the Year, NATS; U.N.T. Concerto Competition Winner; District Winner, Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (Tulsa District), and Top Male Apprentice with the Chautauqua Opera.

Mr. Novak holds a BM and MM in Vocal Performance from Stephen F. Austin State University and currently serves as Co-Artistic Director of Opera Workshop and Assistant Professor of Voice at George Mason University. He resides in Manassas, VA.
