Mezzo-soprano Monika Krajewska is described as an artist who is capable of giving “…full range to the inherent drama of her voice…” and possessing the “…skills with which to emphasize its luscious, full beauty.” At home in opera as well as on the concert stage, Ms. Krajewska has appeared with the Palm Beach Opera, Aspen Opera Theater, Utah Opera, Chattanooga Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, the Opera Theater of Connecticut, Yale Opera, Connecticut Lyric Opera, Caramoor Festival, Poznan Spring Festival (Poland), Vratislavia Cantans (Poland), the Weimar Festival (Germany), the Hartford Symphony, the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra, the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, Erie Philharmonic, among others. She is a frequent guest artist at the Kosciuszko Foundation and the Polish Consulate General (New York).
Opera credits for Monika Krajewska include Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Carmen (Carmen), Angelina (Cenerentola), Marina (Boris Godunov), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Madelon (Andrea Chenier), Mother (Amahl and the Night Visitors), Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Idamante (Idomeneo), Pierotto (Linda Chamounix), Judith (Bluebeard’s Castle), Charlotte (Werther), Nicklausse (Tales of Hoffman), Der Trommer (Der Kaiser von Atlantis), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Meg Page (Falstaff), Laura in Tchaikovsky's Yolanta, and most recently Siebel (Faust) and Hanna Glawari (The Merry Widow). Last season, Ms. Krajewska returned to Palm Beach Opera where assignments included gala concerts, outreach (Angelina & Tisbe), the Third Spirit in The Magic Flute, and opera in concert performances. She was reengaged by the company this season and performed Lola (Cavalleria Rusticana), Zulma ( L'Italiana di Algeri) and Albine in Thaïs for them. Following her Palm Beach assignments, Ms. Krajewska made her debut with the National Philharmonic at Strathmore in the role of Berta (Il Barbiere di Siviglia).
In concert, Monika Krajewska has sung the alto solos in the works of Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Mozart, Rossini, Schubert, and Verdi. As an exponent of Slavic music, she has performed recitals of the works of Chopin, Mussorgsky, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Paderewski, and Szymanowski, among others. Ms. Krajewska made her Carnegie Hall debut as a soloist in Mozart’s Requiem and her European debut as Carlotta in Donizetti’s Il Borgomastro di Saardam at Belcanto Festival (Holland). Upcoming is a recital of Szymanowski songs at Carnegie Hall.
Ms. Krajewska has successfully competed in numerous vocal competitions and is the recipient of the Giuseppe Verdi Prize from the Palm Beach Opera, was a regional MacAllister Award winner, a 2nd place winner of Sembrich Kochanska Vocal Competition, and a 1st place winner in the Rosa Ponselle International Vocal Competition.
Ms. Krajewska holds a Master of Music degree from Yale University and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Connecticut. Prior to coming to the United States, Ms. Krajewska studied both acting and singing at the Paderewski Academy in Poznan, Poland where she was featured in the role of Pupil in Ionesco’s The Lesson. In addition to acting, Ms. Krajewska has studied dancing, fencing and stage combat. She is proficient in Italian, Polish and Russian.
