Wojciech Bukalski has come to the attention of opera companies nationwide for his fine, fluid bass and his excellent interpretive abilities. His versatility and artistic presence have led to performances of a wide range of roles including Leporello, Bartolo, Colline, Zuniga, Sarastro, Figaro, Méphistophélès, Basilio, Bonze, Horace, Henry Kissinger, Nardo and Grenvil.  Mr. Bukalski and has had the privilege of performing with many distinguished opera companies and festivals in the US and abroad  including Florida Grand Opera, Atlanta Opera, Long Beach Opera, New York City Opera, Opera Omaha, Mobile Opera, Warsaw Chamber Opera, Ash Lawn Opera Festival, Colorado Music Festival, and Bear Valley Music Festival. This season Mr. Bukalski made his Virginia Opera debut.

Mr. Bukalski has enjoyed critical acclaim throughout his career.  Of his Colline (La bohème) for Florida Grand Opera, the Miami Sun Post said, "As the philosopher Colline, Wojciech Bukalski continues to impress for his breezy comedic flair and the litheness of his singing….his Colline is subtly endearing."  Of Vanuzzi (Die Schweigsame Frau, R. Strauss) for Long Beach Opera, the Press Telegram wrote “…Wojciech Bukalski is Vanuzzi, the famous Italian opera star who is…just Italian enough to suggest the ego of the grand opera star.  A bass, he also sings with great depth and passion...”

Mr. Bukalski’s very busy career has most recently included Angelotti for Atlanta Opera, the Bonze in his Opera Omaha debut, Baron Mirko Zeta for Ash Lawn Opera Festival, Zuniga in his Virginia Opera debut followed by Elder Ott, in addition to covering Blitch for the company and a recital of Polish songs at Weill Hall. Other engagements in recent seasons include his debut performance of Leporello (Don Giovanni) for Mobile Opera which he reprised for the Mozart Festival of the Warsaw Chamber Opera along with Sarastro.  Covers of Ashby and Billy Jackrabbit (La Fanciulla del West) for New York City Opera, and performances of Bartolo for Bear Valley Music Festival, Zaretski and the Captain (Eugene Onegin) for Atlanta Opera, Vanuzzi (Die Schweigsame Frau) for Long Beach Opera, Bartolo (Le Nozze di Figaro), Emile in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific for Ash-Lawn Opera Festival and additional cover assignments of Dr. Grenvil (La Traviata) and Sacristan (Tosca for New York City Opera. Mr. Bukalski also sang the role of Henry Kissinger in John Adams’ Nixon in China for the Colorado Music Festival.

Following his participation in Florida Grand Opera’s Young Artist Development Program, Wojciech Bukalski enjoyed a number of engagements with the company.  In addition to Dr. Grenvil (La Traviata), he sang Colline (La bohème), Nardo (La finta Giardiniera) and the First Nazarene (Salome), and he covered the roles of Figaro and Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro).  Other assignments for Florida Grand Opera included the Bonze in Madama Butterfly, Nikitich and the Border Guard (Boris Godunov) - in fluent Russian – and additional covers of Méphistophélès (Faust) and Horace (Regina).

In one of his earliest professional engagements, Wojciech Bukalski sang the Bonze on tour with the New York City Opera National Company followed by performances of Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro for New York Grand Opera.  He has performed with the Polish Theater Institute in New York and appeared as Stolnik and Marszalek in S. Moniuszko’s Halka. As an apprentice artist at Sarasota Opera, Mr. Bukalski added the Four Villains (Les contes d’Hoffmann) to his repertoire along with Peter in Hansel und Gretel. He also covered the Verdi Requiem for the Verdi centenary concert. At Glimmerglass Opera he prepared Claudius in Agrippina and Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro, and he joined Marilyn Horne at Music Academy of the West for the role of the Lakai in Ariadne auf Naxos.  Mr. Bukalski sang the Bonze in Madama Butterfly for Chautauqua Opera and, as an apprentice, performed Zuniga in Jonathan Pape’s production of Carmen.  He also covered the role of Cecil in Maria Stuarda.  While with Chautauqua Opera, Mr. Bukalski sang in an Opera Highlights program conducted by John DeMain and a Pops concert conducted by Jack Everly with the Chautauqua Symphony.

Wojciech Bukalski came to America to attend the Opera Institute at Boston University and is a citizen of the United States. While at the Opera Institute, he performed Escamillo in La Tragedie de Carmen, Le Geôlier in Les Dialogues des Carmélites, Betto in Gianni Schicchi, and Snug in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. While pursuing a Master of Music in Voice, he performed Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Dulcamara in L’elisir d’Amore, Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia, and Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte along with the title role in Handel’s Saul. Mr. Bukalski makes his home in New York City.
